Dr. A. Velu Sthapathy
BIOGRAPHY
Dr A. Velu Sthapathi st living at Hyderabad was born on 1 June 1952 at Vennampalli village of Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, India. He is the son of a well renowned Goldsmith architect and Sculptor Shri Anandachri who has made remarkable contributions in the field of art and gold ornamental works.
In his childhood Dr A. Velu Stapathi took great interest in painting and sculpture fields. He won many awards at the college level. After his basic education he completed his master’s degree in Archaeology with first division, later he completed his training on art of st temple architecture and sculpture at the TTD Silpakalasala with 1 Division in 1975. He passed certificate in higher grade drawing & painting from Technical education government of A.P. He also holds H.Ph.D. from Theological University New York USA, in the field as Religious Architecture and construction methods of Hindu, Muslim and Christianity.
In 1975 he joined College of Silpakalasala run by Endowments Department Government , skilled asst. Teacher later was promoted as Asst. Stapathi in Endowment department for Srisailam Submergible Transplantation of Temples work, Supervision of Guntur District temple construction works. Noting his remarkable contribution in this field, Andhra Pradesh Government made him responsible for the carving of the well renown hug Budha Stone statue at Hussainsagar lake at Hyderabad. This Statue is the one of the famous tourist spot at Hyderabad.
After Superannuation in 2010, he was reappointed as member of Technical advisory Committee and was Stapathi Advisor in the Govt. of A.P. upto 2013. In 2013 he was reappointed at SrisailaDevasthanam as an Aastana Stapathi till 2014, after that he was appointed as Stapathi Advisor in Elian Events Team Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority for planning and supervising works up to March 2018, From April 2018 he was appointed as Stapathi Advisor for Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority. In order to retain our traditional skills in architecture and sculptural area Velu Sthpathi a doyen of the Hindu architectural treatise the temple Vastu Shastra started sharing his vast 45 years of experience 1975 to 2020 by running a professional guild named Velu Sthpathi which deals with design of temple construction and sculptural works. He st is also one of the Chief Editor of the book Kashyapa Silpa Grandam1 Part, which is unique master piece brought out for the first time in India. His intense research was solely responsible for the resurrection of the temple works by the great Brahasrishi Kashiyapa.
ACHIEVEMENTS
A. Velu has done thousands of Temple Architectural and Sculptures works and received more than 100 awards in this field. He is known as doyen of Hindu Architecture and has drawn the attention of many scholar’s, architects and engineers both in India and also at International level.
